]]>VALORANT Champions 2024 will continue this week, with the first matches of the playoff stage taking place on Wednesday, August 14.
The group stage of IEM Cologne has already started and will run through Tuesday, August 13, before the playoffs begin on Friday, August 16.
Meanwhile, at the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the Starcraft II and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III tournaments will kick off on August 14 and 15, respectively.
Just eight teams remain in the playoff stage of VALORANT Champions 2024, with DRX, Sentinels, Trace Esports, EDward Gaming, G2 Esports, Leviatan, Team Heretics and Fnatic advancing from their groups.
Due to the pre-tournament favourite, Gen.G, being knocked out in the group stage, any of the remaining teams will feel as though they can take out the season-ending event.

IEM Cologne’s group stage kicked off on Saturday, with the eight invited teams being joined by the eight qualifiers from the play-in stage.
Following the first two days of the stage, the pre-tournament favourite, Team Spirit, has been knocked out, with several upsets featured in the early series of the prestigious Counter-Strike 2 event.

Call of Duty will debut at the Esports World Cup this week, with the world’s best CoD teams competing in the four-day event that boasts a prize pool of US$1.8 million.

]]>The post Esports World Cup will boast US$60 million prize pool appeared first on Esport Bet.
]]>Taking over from the previous Gamers8 tournaments, the Esports World Cup will boast a staggering US$60 million prize pool, as it aims to be the largest esports event to date.
However, its location in Saudi Arabia, a country criticized for its human rights record, has sparked debate within the gaming community.
The tournament will feature 20 distinct tournaments across a variety of titles, and they include:
Each tournament will follow a unique format while contributing to the larger Club Championship.
This innovative competition will award US$20 million to the top 16 clubs based on their performance across multiple titles.
The prize pool distribution includes over US$33 million for individual game tournaments, US$20 million for the Club Championship, US$1.1 million for MVP awards, and US$7.6 million for qualifying rewards.
The significant investment reflects the organizers’ commitment to fostering the global esports industry and providing substantial opportunities for players and clubs.
Despite the financial allure, the event’s association with Saudi Arabia has drawn criticism.
The country’s track record on LGBTQ+ rights, gender equality, and free speech clashes with the inclusive values often espoused by the gaming community.
However, for many esports organizations grappling with financial challenges, the opportunity to compete for such substantial prizes may outweigh ethical concerns.
The Esports World Cup represents a pivotal moment for esports, aiming to elevate the industry to the scale of traditional sports events like the Olympics.
With the backing of the Saudi Arabian government and a clear vision for growth, the tournament seeks to establish Riyadh as a global hub for gaming and esports.
As preparations for the event continue, details regarding specific tournament formats, dates, and prize pool distributions will be eagerly awaited by fans and participants alike.
While the debate over the tournament’s location may persist, the Esports World Cup signals a significant milestone in the continued evolution of competitive gaming on the world stage.

SHIN vs STATS SC2 BETTING & MATCH DETAILS |
|
---|---|
Best Odds: | SHIN $1.44 at GG Bet | Stats $2.63 at GG Bet |
When: | February 9, 2024 | 12:00 CET |
Watch Live: | Twitch (https://www.twitch.tv/esl_sc2) |
Kim “Stats” Dae-yeob and Shin “SHIN” Hee-beom last met in December 2023 during AfreecaTV Pro Series #22, where SHIN won 4-0. It marked his third head-to-head victory of the year and his eighth overall (8-13).
Stats has dominated SHIN since they first met in 2015, but he could not match his compatriot last year as the balance of power flipped. For this match, we also have to consider Stats’ poor record against Zerg players.
Protos vs Zerg is Stats’ worst matchup at a 58.60% win rate across 1,413 games. That number has dropped to just 12.5% over the last 16 games, which is highly concerning. In contrast, ZvP is SHIN’s best matchup, with a 60.24% all-time win rate and 76% over the last 50 fixtures.
Considering Stats performance metrics and recent head-to-head record against SHIN, it’s tough to justify a wager on him.
CLEM vs OLIVERA SC2 BETTING & MATCH DETAILS |
|
---|---|
Best Odds: | Clem $1.59 at GG Bet | Oliveira $2.27 at GG Bet |
When: | February 9, 2024 | 12:00 CET |
Watch Live: | Twitch (https://www.twitch.tv/esl_sc2) |
After placing 17th-20th and 21st-24th in his last two trips to Poland, Clment “Clem” Desplanches enters IEM Katowice 2024 as the second favourite to win the tournament, priced at $3.80 on the outright betting markets. That’s hardly surprising, considering Clem is the current ESL SC2 Masters champion and the second-ranked player on the European ESL Pro Tour 2023/24.
Li “Oliveira” Peinan hasn’t accomplished nearly as much as the French StarCraft II pro over the last few months, but he has left a good impression in bigger tournaments. More importantly, Olivera is 1-1 in the head-to-head against Clem on the year, with a 3-1 victory from WardiTV 2023.
Olivera’s victory against Clem two weeks ago isn’t something to ignore, but it doesn’t prove he is a better player. Clem is in excellent form and holds a 67.37% win rate against Terran players over the last 95 games, whereas Oliveira’s win rate in mirrored matchups sits at just 48.89%.
Oliveira is a solid player, but at the offered StarCraft II betting odds, Clem is a more appealing choice.
BUNNY vs STATS SC2 BETTING & MATCH DETAILS |
|
---|---|
Best Odds: | Bunny $1.68 at GG Bet | Stats $2.03 at GG Bet |
When: | February 9, 2024 | 13:00 CET |
Watch Live: | Twitch (https://www.twitch.tv/esl_sc2) |
Lee “Bunny” Jae-seon and Kim “Stats” Dae-yeob have not met once since March 2021, when Bunny won his third consecutive head-to-head match and improved his all-time record to 7-9. It’s been nearly three years since, so those numbers mean nothing.
SCII betting sites have Stats priced as an underdog for this match, likely because he hasn’t played an official game since mid-December. On the other hand, Bunny has been active over the last month but hasn’t accomplished much, recently placing 15th-16th at Master’s Coliseum 7.
This match is much closer to 50/50 than it may seem. Stats has a decent record against Terran players, whereas Bunny has a 57.58% win rate against Protoss over the last 33 outings. At plus money, Stats is a much better choice.

GUMIHO vs HEROMARINE SC2 BETTING & MATCH DETAILS |
|
---|---|
Best Odds: | GuMiho $1.60 at GG Bet | HeRoMaRiNe $2.37 at GG Bet |
When: | February 8, 2024 | 12:00 CET |
Watch Live: | Twitch (https://www.twitch.tv/esl_sc2) |
Koh “GuMiho” Byung-jae and Gabriel Raffaele “HeRoMaRinE” Segat have yet to meet in 2024 but have clashed four times last year. The latter won the first meeting at ESL Open Cup #167 Americas and lost the remaining three series 1-2, worsening the German’s all-time head-to-head record to 3-6.
GuMiho and HeRoMaRinE have not met once since May 2023, so the head-to-head figures might not hold as much weight. Still, GuMiho is in good form ahead of this clash and is fresh off a semifinal run at ESL Open Cup #212 Korea. HeRoMaRinE’s only notable accomplishment this year was finishing top four at ESL Open Cup #209 Europe.
Even at $1.60 with the top StarCraft II betting sites, GuMiho looks a bit undervalued. As such, GuMiho to cover the map handicap is worth a look.
SCARLETT vs TRIGGER SC2 BETTING & MATCH DETAILS |
|
---|---|
Best Odds: | Scarlett $1.49 at GG Bet | trigger $2.51 at GG Bet |
When: | February 8, 2024 | 14:00 CET |
Watch Live: | Twitch (https://www.twitch.tv/esl_sc2) |
Sasha “Scarlett” Hostyn has met with Yoon “trigger” Hong 14 times since their first clash in March 2021 and enters this match with a 10-1-3 head-to-head record. That includes two wins from 2023 at ESL Open Cup #172 Americas and HomeStory Cup XXIV at the start of December.
Form-wise, neither player has shown much ahead of Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2024. Scarlett placed 19th-22nd at WardiTV 2023 at the start of January, whereas trigger’s most recent appearance at a Premier-tier event (Master’s Coliseum 7) ended with a 15th-16th finish.
Priced at $2.51 with esports betting sites, trigger is expected to struggle on Thursday. He hasn’t beaten Scarlett once since November 2022 and comes up against a player with a 61.8% all-time win rate in Zerg vs Protoss matchups.

Katowice, Poland, is the place to be in the esports world this week, as the Starcraft II IEM Katowice tournament will also be held from February 8-11.
Meanwhile, the first Tier 1 Dota 2 event of the year will be held in Dubai, with BetBoom Dacha 2024 running from February 4-16.
The second week of IEM Katowice will feature the final 16 teams battling it out across two groups, with only six sides advancing to the playoffs on the weekend.
Although IEM Katowice is one of several Intel Extreme Masters tournaments, it is one of the most prestigious events on the calendar, and we have already seen some big upsets during the first week.

The biggest event of the Starcraft II season will begin on Thursday, February 8.
The US$500,000 IEM Katowice tournament will feature the best SCII players from all over the world, with each of them seeking to become the next Katowice champion and take home the US$150,000 winner’s cheque.

Clment “Clem” Desplanches and Joona “Serral” Sotala will cross swords on Friday in the ESL SC2 Masters 2023 Winter Europe upper-bracket semifinal, marking their seventh meeting of the year. Of the past six clashes, Serral has won all but two, including the more recent pair of games in September.
Considering his strong head-to-head record, it makes sense to see Serral priced as favourite with most esports betting sites. Serral is by far the highest-rated player on the European ESL Pro Tour 2023/24 standings, with 3080 points, 1713 points clear of Clem in second place.
The Finnish StarCraft II esports pro has already won ESL SC2 Masters 2023 Summer Europe and the main event, as well as AfreecaTV Champions Cup 2. So not only is Serral the best-performing European SCII player, but he is the most in-form player in the world.
Even though Clem has done relatively well across the last three meetings with Serral, the favourite to win with at least two maps to spare is an easy choice.
REYNOR vs SHOWTIME SCII BETTING & MATCH DETAILS |
|

Best Odds: | Reynor $1.16 at GG Bet | ShoWTimE $4.64 at GG Bet |
When: | November 17, 2023 | 18:00 CET |
Watch Live: | Twitch (https://www.twitch.tv/esl_sc2) |
Riccardo “Reynor” Romiti finished the group stage with a perfect 3-0 record, and he hasn’t slowed down since, with wins against Kevin “Harstem” Koning and Nikita “SKillous” Gurevich. However, Reynor has dropped two maps against the Dutch player and one map against SKillous, which isn’t the best look.
Tobias “ShoWTimE” Sieber hasn’t looked much better so far, either. He dropped a series 0-2 against SKIllous during the group stage and showed some struggles against Max “MaxPax” C on Sunday. Still, while ShoWTimE hasn’t looked great, he has hardly shown less than Reynor.
The Italian Stallion has a 7-2 head-to-head record against the German in 2023, but the two have gone back and forth over their last three meetings and are 1-1 across the last two. It’s also important to note that ShoWTimE has a 66.7% win rate against Zerg players, so it’s not like he’s in a very disadvantageous position.
At the offered betting odds, backing ShoWTimE is a solid longshot bet. Alternatively, ShoWTimE at $2.62 with a +1.5 handicap is a good choice.

GUMIHO vs CLASSIC SCII BETTING & MATCH DETAILS |

Best Odds: | GuMiho $2.37 at GG Bet | Classic $1.53 at GG Bet |
When: | November 2, 2023 | 17:00 KST |
Watch Live: | YouTube, AfreecaTV |
Koh “GuMiho” Byung-jae enters the 2023 Global StarCraft II League Season 3: Code S knockout stage with a perfect 4-0 record, having won Group D in the first and Group A in the second stage of the tournament. Kim “Classic” Doh-woo, meanwhile, placed second in Group B in the last stage, yet the Protoss player is priced as a favourite in this matchup.
That is mainly due to Classic’s strong head-to-head record against GuMiho, whom he has beaten 12 times (12-4) this year. However, GuMiho has won against Classic three times since July, including a 2-0 result in their most recent meeting at the start of October.
Classic has a lousy 37.93% win rate against Terran players over the last 58 maps, whereas GuMiho has a 58.27% success rate in TvP matchups. So even though Classic has done well against GuMihio before, we prefer the outsider at the offered StarCraft II betting odds.
SOLAR vs DARK SCII BETTING & MATCH DETAILS |
|
---|---|
Best Odds: | Solar $2.20 at GG Bet | Dark $1.61 at GG Bet |
When: | November 2, 2023 | 18:30 KST |
Watch Live: | YouTube, AfreecaTV |
Kang “Solar” Min-soo and Park “Dark” Ryung-woo last met at the start of August, when Solar won his eighth head-to-head match of the year and third against Dark over the last six meetings. However, Solar is still 8-11 down in the head-to-head stakes in 2023.
This might explain why Dark is priced as the favourite for this match, but we would argue that the odds should be reversed. Solar has looked very good in the first two stages of the tournament, and he is historically a solid player in ZvZ matchups (66.88% all-time win rate). Moreover, Solar has won 80.85% of mirrored matchups over the last 47 games.
Dark is getting a lot of respect on the StarCraft II betting sites since he is higher rated than Solar. But that doesn’t mean that the 2023 GSL S2: Code S finalist will have an easy time on Thursday.

DARK vs DRG SCII BETTING & MATCH DETAILS |
|
---|---|
Best Odds: | Cark $1.14 at GG Bet | DRG $5.00 at GG Bet |
When: | October 17, 2023 |18:30 KST |
Watch Live: | YouTube, AfreecaTV |
Park “Dark” Ryung-woo is priced as a $1.14 favourite to defeat Park “DRG” Soo-ho on Tuesday, which makes sense, considering Dark is 20-3 up in the head-to-head since the two Korean StarCraft II esports pros first met in 2014. Moreover, Dark is 6-1 up in the head-to-head in 2023.
However, while Dark holds an awe-inspiring record against his compatriot, he lost against DRG (0-2) in September, proving he isn’t invincible. But considering it was his first defeat against DRG since 2020, it could have easily been a fluke.
It also doesn’t help that DRG enters the 2023 Global StarCraft II League Season 3: Code S in shaky form. He is 3-4 across his last seven outings, whereas Dark is 6-4 across his last 10, although most of his wins came against weaker opponents.
Dark should win, but we’re getting a generous offer on DRG to steal a map. Despite DRG’s poor head-to-head record, Dark has not been playing well recently, and the last time Dark struggled with his form, he lost to DRG. So, taking the outsider with a map advantage at $2.20 in this situation is more than fair.
BYUN vs ASTREA SCII BETTING & MATCH DETAILS |
|
---|---|
Best Odds: | ByuN $1.14 at GG Bet | Astrea $5.00 at GG Bet |
When: | October 17, 2023 |19:15 KST |
Watch Live: | YouTube, AfreecaTV |
Byun “ByuN” Hyun-woo is 7-1 up in the head-to-head against Maxwell “Astrea” Angel this year and 27-8 all-time. However, ByuN is only 2-1 across his last three meetings with the American SCII pro and 5-4 in maps won.
Even though ByuN holds an imposing record, he has dropped at least one map against Astrea across his last three meetings, which suggests that this match has the potential to be closer than the offered SCII betting odds suggest. On the other hand, Astrea has a terrible record against Terran players (40.48% win rate over the last 42 games), whereas ByuN is 97-34 against Protoss players (74.05%).
Astrea looked decent in his last three meetings with ByuN but hasn’t shown much over the last month. At the offered odds with esports betting sites, we prefer ByuN to sweep.

CURE vs STATS SCII BETTING & MATCH DETAIL |
|
---|---|
Best Odds: | Cure $2.25 at GG Bet | Stats $1.57 at GG Bet |
When: | October 12, 2023 |18:30 KST |
Watch Live: | YouTube, AfreecaTV |
Kim “Cure” Doh-wook and Kim “Stats” Dae-yeob have met 32 times since 2015, each winning 15 series and 39 maps. However, while their all-time head-to-head record is 50-50, Cure holds a perfect 6-0 record (12-0 in maps) against the 31-year-old veteran this year.
The strong head-to-head record explains why Cure is heavily favoured for this match, but we must also consider that Cure is in excellent form. He holds a 62.66% win rate across the last 233 games and is 65-34 against Protoss players. Stats has a 48.1% win rate across the last 54 games and an abysmal 36.84% win rate in PvT games.
Stats is never to be underestimated, but at the offered StarCraft II betting odds, we have to side with Cure to sweep Stats for the seventh time this year.
BUNNY vs NIGHTMARE SCII BETTING & MATCH DETAIL |
|
---|---|
Best Odds: | Bunny $1.30 at GG Bet | NightMare $3.40 at GG Bet |
When: | October 12, 2023 |19:15 KST |
Watch Live: | YouTube, AfreecaTV |
Lee “Bunny” Jae-seon is priced as a $1.30 favourite to defeat Jang “NightMare” Wook, which sounds fair considering Bunny is 3-0 against NightMare across their last three meetings. However, the two Korean SCII pros have not met once since November 2022, so that number doesn’t mean much.
NightMare’s best tournament placement was ninthC12th at the 2023 Global StarCraft II League Season 2: Code S, which isn’t too inspiring. However, Bunny hasn’t looked much better recently. He made the semifinals in GSL Season 1 Code S but then added two 13thC16th-place finishes at GSL Season 2 and ESL Summer.
The only thing going in Bunny’s favour is his strong record against Protoss players (57.14%), but even that is only slightly better than NightMare’s PvT record (55.71%). Bunny should be favoured, but not by that much. Value is with NightMare.

MARU vs SCARLETT SCII BETTING & MATCH DETAIL |
|
---|---|
Best Odds: | Maru $1.04 at GG Bet | Scarlett $9.00 at GG Bet |
When: | October 10, 2023 |18:30 KST |
Watch Live: | YouTube, AfreecaTV |
Cho “Maru” Seong-ju has met Sasha “Scarlett” Hostyn 12 times since 2013 but just twice in 2023 C at WardiTV Korean Royale in April (2-1) and at WardiTV Korean Royale Season 2 (2-0) in September. With the two wins, Maru is 10-2 in the head-to-head, and he hasn’t lost against Scarlett once since 2017.
This is one of the reasons why Maru is priced as a $1.04 favourite to defeat the Canadian StarCraft II pro. The other reason is that Maru is the current no.1 on the Korean ESL Pro Tour 2023/24 standings, with 2145 points and a 344-point lead ahead of Koh “GuMiho” Byung-jae.
Still, while Maru should win, we’re getting $3.40 with esports betting sites on Scarlett to steal a map, which is a bit too generous. Scarlett played well against Maru in their last two meetings and didn’t perform too poorly at WardiTV Korean Royale Season 2 last month.
Maru will likely win, but we’re getting more value backing Scarlett with a map advantage.
SOLAR vs CREATOR SCII BETTING & MATCH DETAIL |
|
---|---|
Best Odds: | Solar $7.00 at GG Bet | Creator $1.08 at GG Bet |
When: | October 10, 2023 |19:15 KST |
Watch Live: | YouTube, AfreecaTV |
Kang “Solar” Min-soo holds an excellent all-time head-to-head record (54-21) against Jang “Creator” Hyun-woo and is 6-3 up on the year. This includes two 2-1 victories from last month’s WardiTV Korean Royale Season 2 and Kung Fu Cup 2023 Winter Weekly #1.
As the numbers would suggest, Solar is the better player, but having him priced at $1.36 is a bit too short for our tastes. Creator has won at least one round in all but two series against Solar this year and holds a 57.63% win rate against Zerg players over his last 59 games.
That doesn’t mean that Creator should win, but considering how the last few meetings between these StarCraft II pros ended, over 2.5 maps at $2.00 or better is a solid bet.
