]]>Despite losing the first map on Mirage, MIBR rallied with a hard-fought win on Anubis and then dominated on Nuke to secure the series.
This marks the first time since Season 15 that a Brazilian Counter-Strike team has reached the quarter-finals of the Pro League.

MIBR, who have only lost one match in Malta so far, will now face the in-form M80 in their first-ever meeting.
Heroic started strong on Mirage, jumping to a 9-3 lead on the terrorist side.
MIBR fought back after the side switch but ultimately faltered in the 21st round, losing to only two guns.
Anubis played out similarly, with Heroic leading much of the first half before MIBR’s resurgence after the break.
Despite a fumble in a 2v1 situation, MIBR kept their composure and closed out the game.
The momentum carried into Nuke, where Felipe “?insani?” Yujis standout performance led MIBR to a commanding 9-3 lead.
Though Heroic won the second pistol round, their comeback was stopped by MIBRs force-buy win.

Eternal Fire also booked their spot in the quarter-finals after a grueling three-map series against The MongolZ.
Mirage saw both teams in near parity, with The MongolZ taking the map in overtime.
However, Eternal Fire bounced back on Anubis, driven by star rifler Ismailcan “?XANTARES?” D?rtkarde?, before taking Inferno in a hard-fought 13-11 victory.
The MongolZ will now regroup for IEM Rio, while Eternal Fire prepare to face Vitality.

In other action, Spirit secured a quarter-final berth after defeating Imperial 2-0 in a tense series (Nuke 16-13, Dust2 13-3).
Spirit’s star, Danil “?donk?” Kryshkovets, played a key role in the victory, despite some struggles on Nuke.
Imperial fought valiantly, especially on Nuke, but were ultimately outclassed on Dust2.
Spirit will now face Natus Vincere in the top-eight stage.

Liquid also cruised into the quarter-finals after dismantling Complexity 2-0 (13-2 Nuke, 13-7 Anubis).
Complexity, who looked solid against FaZe, were overwhelmed by Liquids preparation and individual prowess, particularly from Roland “?ultimate?” Tomkowiak and Mareks “?YEKINDAR?” Ga?inskis.
Liquid’s flawless defence on Nuke and clutch performances on Anubis sealed their victory, setting up a quarter-final clash with G2 Esports.

The win marks a significant boost for Heroic, who have struggled with form recently.
After a poor showing at IEM Cologne due to visa issues with Abdul “?degster?” Gasanov and a last-place finish at BetBoom Dacha Belgrade, the Counter-Strike team appears to have found stability in Malta.

“It feels way better,” said Rasmus “?sjuush?” Beck in a post-match interview, expressing relief over their improved coordination.
On the flip side, this defeat is another blow to Virtus.pro, who have been in a slump since adding Denis “?electroNic?” Sharipov to their roster.
Despite managing wins over Team Falcons, FURIA Esports, and RED Canids to reach the playoffs, their lacklustre terrorist-side performances against Heroicscoring just four rounds across both mapsunderscored their ongoing struggles.
The match began on Ancient, where Heroic rallied from an early deficit to lead 5-2, only for Virtus.pro to recover and hold a slim lead at halftime.
However, Heroic came out strong in the second half, converting key clutches, including a 2v4 and two 1v2s from NertZ and sjuush, to secure a 13-8 win.
On Dust2, Heroic dominated, building a 9-3 lead by halftime and closing out the series 13-6, with standout performances from sjuush and Guy “NertZ” Iluz.

In another ESL Pro League playoff match, The MongolZ pulled off a thrilling 2-1 victory over BIG.
The series went to triple overtime on Ancient, with BIG narrowly taking the map 22-19, thanks to a quad-kill from Johannes “?tabseN?” Wodarz.
However, The MongolZ bounced back, winning 13-11 on Nuke and 13-9 on Mirage to progress to the second round.
They will face Eternal Fire next, a team they previously defeated at the IEM Cologne Play-in.
Meanwhile, Team Spirit knocked out FURIA Esports with a 2-0 victory (13-9 Nuke, 13-11 Anubis).
FURIA showed improvement from their last meeting at BetBoom Dacha Belgrade but couldn’t overcome Spirit’s solid defensive play, particularly from Dmitry “?sh1ro?” Sokolov and Leonid “?chopper?” Vishnyakov.

Finally, Complexity’s core roster earned their first-ever victory over FaZe Clan, winning 2-0 (13-10, 13-9) in a decisive series.
They took down FaZe on Anubis and Dust2, despite standout performances from Robin “?ropz?” Kool.
Complexity’s game plan, spearheaded by Johnny “?JT?” Theodosiou and coach Tiaan “?T.c?” Coertzen, neutralised FaZe’s usual unpredictability.
EliGE commented post-match that FaZe lacked their trademark confidence and individual flair.
Complexity’s impressive team play, anchored by Ricky “?floppy?” Kemery and Michael “?Grim?” Wince, was crucial to their win.
They now face Team Liquid next, with G2 waiting in the quarterfinals.
FaZe, despite their efforts, have now exited five events in a row at the first stage of the playoffs, continuing a frustrating run for the team.

Both BIG and The MongolZ have proved to be deadly outfits on their day throughout the ESL Pro League group stage.
BIG performed very well in their lower-bracket run in Group C, defeating Rooster and Fnatic 2-0 before besting Complexity 2-1 in the lower final. In those series, Rigon “rigoN” Gashi, Florian “syrsoN” Rische, and Jon “JDC” de Castro carried this relatively new line-up, which will set them up well for this high-kill clash.
The MongolZ have experienced an inconsistent Pro League campaign, with losses to 3DMAX and Team Spirit before bouncing back with wins against KOI, 9z Team and 3DMAX to advance from Group B. Garidmagnai “bLitz” Byambasuren and co. play a frantic style of CS, as they live or die by the sword in terms of their play-calling on the terrorist side.
Given the dramatic difference in game styles, it is hard to predict a winner; however, expect to see all three maps in the opening series of the day.

Virtus.pro and Heroic have met four times during 2024, with VP taking each of those meetings. As such, it is no surprise that top esports betting sites have marked the Russians as $1.55 favourites.
Virtus.pro showed solid form throughout the group stage, winning against Team Falcons and FURIA to take out the lower final in Group D. Although this roster hasn’t faced Heroic yet, the world No.8 team seems to have found its mojo again and is firing on all cylinders ahead of the playoffs.
Heroic have slowly fallen in the world rankings over the last three months, and after some poor showings at S-Tier events, they are now 17th in the world. Losses to Ninjas in Pyjamas and Sangal Esports in the group stage don’t read well for this clash.
Virtus.pro are worthy favourites in this contest, and considering the form these two bring into the playoffs, it is hard to tip against them.

Team Spirit and FURIA Esports will clash for the second time in three weeks, following Spirit’s dominant 2-0 victory at BetBoom Dacha Belgrade on August 30.
Spirit lost to MIBR in the upper bracket of Group B but bounced back with wins over The MongolZ and 3DMAX, even though they were pushed to three maps in both series. Danil “donk” Kryshkovets seems to be Spirit’s only win condition; if he shows up and tops the server in kills, Spirit win, but if he doesn’t, they struggle.
FURIA have performed as expected. They’ve beaten the teams they should beat and lost the games they are expected to lose. However, one constant for FURIA is Kaike “KSCERATO” Cerato, who is yet to finish any of their five matches with a negative kills-to-deaths ratio and is pivotal to their chances of causing an upset.
Neither of these teams are easy to tip with confidence, but we are getting great odds for FURIA to win one map.

FaZe Clan, who are notorious for being slow starters at events, fell to Sangal Esports in the opening round before defeating FlyQuest, Ninjas in Pyjamas and Sangal en route to a top-three finish in Group A. Although FaZe have not been at their best, David “frozen” ?eransky is the fourth-ranked player (1.40) in ESL Pro League Season 20, and if FaZe want to lift the trophy, he will need some help from his teammates.
Complexity may have qualified through the last-chance stage; however, they defeated Astralis and MOUZ twice to qualify for playoffs, which is a much tougher run compared to that of FaZe. Unfortunately for Complexity supporters, their previous meetings against FaZe have not gone their way, with the North American organisation losing each of the last four series.
With two confident yet inconsistent rosters set to clash, expect a back-and-forth series that will be played out over three maps.

Due to the Dota 2, Rocket League and Call of Duty seasons ending over the last few weeks, there will be a break before more S-Tier events kick off again, leaving the ESL Pro League as the only event that will be covered for the week ahead.
The ESL Pro League group stage ended on Sunday, September 15, leaving us with the top 16 squads that will compete for the ESL Pro League Season 20 title over the next seven days.
Team Vitality, G2 Esports, M80 and Natus Vincere won’t play their first series of the playoffs until Thursday and Friday after they secured quarter-final berths.
Eternal Fire, MIBR, Team Liquid and Imperial Esports await the winners of the opening round matches in the second round of the playoffs.
Below is a list of series that will take place in the first round of the playoffs on Tuesday, with odds courtesy of GG Bet.

Their counter-terrorist side on Anubis laid the foundation for rain to shine in the offensive half, while Dust2 saw a dominant FaZe performance, with Finn “?karrigan?” Andersen rallying his team loudly throughout.
Sangal, after defeating FaZe in their opening matchup, couldn’t build on that momentum.
They suffered defeats to Eternal Fire and FaZe, falling to the Last Chance Stage, where they will face FlyQuest.
FaZes recent form marks a shift after early exits from BLAST Premier Fall Groups and IEM Cologne.

Meanwhile, Team Spirit also earned a playoff berth after reverse-sweeping 3DMAX.
Despite losing the first map on Anubis (6-13), Spirit bounced back with dominant wins on Ancient (13-6) and Nuke (13-2), powered by standout performances from Danil “?donk?” Kryshkovets and Myroslav “?zont1x?” Plakhotia.
In the Last Chance Stage, KOI and Lynn Vision were eliminated after losses to Wildcard and FlyQuest, respectively.
FlyQuest managed to stave off elimination in a hard-fought series against Lynn Vision, while Wildcard continues their tournament run after defeating KOI.
The MongolZ and 9z have also dropped into the Last Chance Stage following losses to Spirit and 3DMAX.
The MongolZ took Spirit to the brink but couldn’t close the series, while 9z’s defeat leaves them struggling to regain their early-season form after setbacks at IEM Cologne and BetBoom Dacha.
Spirit’s playoff berth was hard-fought, having earlier survived a scare from Wildcard and losing to MIBR.
Their recovery, alongside FaZe’s resurgence, adds intrigue as the tournament heads into the final stages.

Spirit will drop into the lower bracket and will face The MongolZ, who decisively beat KOI 2-0 (13-1, 13-0) in just 81 minutes, where they only lost one round across the two maps.
The Mongolians dominated, with standout performances from Usukhbayar “910” Banzragch and Munkhbold “Senzu” Azbayar, both boasting over a 2.00 rating.
KOI now faces elimination in the Last Chance Stage against Wildcard, who were convincingly beaten by 9z Team 2-0 (13-6, 13-10) in the lower bracket of Group B.
Elsewhere, both Heroic and Ninjas in Pyjamas (NiP) are in the Last Chance Stage after defeats in their lower bracket semi-finals.
Heroic let an 11-3 lead slip on Nuke against Sangal, losing the series despite a strong showing from Guy “NertZ” Iluz and Abdul “degster” Gasanov on Mirage.
NiP pushed FaZe Clan to the limit but eventually crumbled in the decider on Dust2, where H?vard “rain” Nygaard led FaZe to an 11-1 halftime advantage, before claiming the final map 13-1.

In one of the more lopsided fixtures of the ESL Pro League Season 20 group stage, Peter “stanislaw” Jarguz’s Wildcard will look to derail one of the tournament favourites, Team Spirit. However, iit is fair to question whether Counter-Strike betting sites have priced Spirit a bit too short.
Although Wildcard are one of the lowest-ranked teams in Malta and hail from a weak region, they have dominated the North American scene for the last two months. That is still not as impressive as Team Spirit’s run since the start of August, but at Intel Extreme Masters Cologne, we saw that Spirit can collapse even against weaker opponents.
It would be too optimistic to believe Wildcard can defeat Team Spirit under normal circumstances, but the map handicap odds for this series are a bit too generous.

The MongolZ have made serious noise over the last few months in European Counter-Strike tournaments. While their run at IEM Cologne 2024 was not as successful, they defeated FlyQuest, Eternal Fire, and Team Spirit, and also played two close series against SAW.
After a strong run of their own, 3DMAX have cooled down lately. They won Skyesports Championship 2024 at the end of July but have since placed last in Cologne and ended CCT Season 2 European Series #8 in 9th-16th place.
While 3DMAX beat The MongolZ in July, their performances since then have been underwhelming. Backing the favourites at $1.55 is not a bad option, but Garidmagnai “bLitz” Byambasuren and co. should be able to sweep 3DMAX without many issues.

Vitality and FaZe played out a hard-fought three-map series, with the former taking the series 2-1 (8-13, 16-12, 13-9), even though their star player, Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut, had little influence on the clash.
FaZe picked Inferno for the first map, and with strong performances from key players like Robin “ropz” Kool and H?vard “rain” Nygaard, they took an early lead in the series with a 13-8 victory.
Although Vitality was forced into overtime on their map pick of Dust2, Shahar “flameZ” Shushan stepped up and carried the world number four to a 16-12 win, forcing a decider on Anubis.
The squads couldn’t be separated at halftime, locked at 6-6, before heading into the final half of the match.

Earlier in the day, FURIA and Virtus.pro were eliminated from the IEM Cologne after suffering their second defeat of the group stage.
FURIA’s second straight 0-2 loss, this time against Team Liquid, ended their disappointing campaign in Cologne, while VP was knocked out by Falcons in a back-and-forth three-map series.
Finally, The Mongolz and Astralis had their runs ended by paiN Gaming and G2 Esports, respectively, in the lower bracket of Group A.
G2 continued their IEM Cologne resurgence with a 2-1 (13-1, 13-10, 13-3) victory, where the world number four dominated their Danish opponents on two of the three maps.
The Mongolz suffered a similar fate to their upper bracket loss on Sunday, as they claimed the opening map before losing the next two, going down 1-2 (13-16, 13-10, 13-8) against paiN.
The final day of the group stage will take place on Wednesday, with the final two teams locking in their spots to compete in the LANXESS Arena.

G2, who were also upset by a play-in stage qualifier, had their IEM Cologne title defence dealt an early blow after suffering a 0-2 loss against SAW.
The do-or-die series began on Spirit’s map pick of Nuke, and it was Nemanja ‘huNter-‘ Kova? who started off hot for G2, recording five kills in the first two rounds to set the tone.
The Kova? cousins, Nikola ‘NiKo’ Kova? and huNter-, dominated for G2 in the first half, propelling the squad to a 9-3 halftime lead.
Three first-half rounds would be the only round wins that Spirit claimed, as G2 quickly wrapped up the map 13-3.
Only Danil ‘donk’ Kryshkovets cracked double-digit kills (10), while Myroslav ‘zont1x’ Plakhotia struggled with four kills and 37.9 ADR on Nuke.
Following a lacklustre performance on their map, Spirit was tasked with playing G2’s pick of Mirage.
However, G2 started Mirage with four straight rounds on the terrorist side before Spirit won their first, thanks to three kills from zont1x.
Unfortunately for Spirit, G2 continued their dominance and finished the half with a massive 11-1 lead before closing out the series with a 13-1 demolition.

Spirit has been sent packing from IEM Cologne following an embarrassing performance, which saw them win just four rounds in the clash with G2.
9z Team joined Spirit in last place after they were eliminated from Cologne by paiN Gaming in a back-and-forth three-map series, with paiN completing the reverse sweep after losing the first map.
Meanwhile, Natus Vincere (NaVi) and SAW secured their spots in the LANXESS Arena following their victories in the Group A upper bracket semi-finals.
NaVi proved too strong for Astralis and took the series 2-0 (13-4, 13-7).
SAW was pushed to their limits against The Mongolz, as they played all three maps and eventually claimed the series 2-1 (13-16, 13-7, 13-10).

9z continued their impressive run by defeating regional rivals MIBR 2-0 (16-13, 13-2) to secure a group stage spot.
After a tight battle on Ancient, where 9z staged a comeback from a likely defeat, they dominated Nuke.
MIBR showed initial promise with a clever play in yard but were outplayed by 9zs tactical prowess.
A near-heroic 1vs5 attempt by Raphael “?exit?” Lacerda was denied by Franco “?dgt?” Garcia, as 9z cruised to a 13-2 victory to close out the series.

Falcons overcame BIG 2-1 (13-7, 10-13, 13-10) in a three-map series to qualify for the group stage.
The win was a much-needed morale boost for Falcons, with Emil “?Magisk?” Reif praising lvaro “?SunPayus?” Garcas standout performance.
BIG’s pick of Dust2 proved disastrous as they fell behind 2-10 in the first half.
Although they made a minor comeback, Falcons’ victory was never in doubt.
Mirage was more competitive, with BIG breaking their losing streak on the map thanks to a desert eagle 4k from Rigon “?rigoN?” Gashi.
However, Falcons closed out the series on Anubis, with SunPayus leading the charge on the counter-terrorist side.

The MongolZ secured their group stage spot after a nail-biting 2-1 (4-13, 13-8, 16-14) victory over Eternal Fire.
The Mongolian team rebounded from a rough start on Anubis and capitalized on a shaky performance from Ismailcan “?XANTARES?” D?rtkarde? on Mirage.
Despite a strong counter-terrorist half from XANTARES on Nuke, The MongolZ’s aggressive plays, particularly from Garidmagnai “?bLitz?” Byambasuren, helped them secure the win in overtime.
Eternal Fire’s leader, Engin “?MAJ3R?” Kpeli, took responsibility for the loss, citing strategic errors on the terrorist side of Nuke.

MIBR bounced back on Anubis, dominating with a 13-4 victory.

The win secured paiNs place in the group stage, while MIBR was eliminated from the tournament after back-to-back losses on the final day of the play-in stage.
